Under the leadership of Dr. Igor Galynker, M.D., Ph.D., The Family Center for Bipolar Disorder
is a unique partnership of mental health professionals, caregivers and patients who are deeply committed
to providing the highest quality care to both patients and caregivers affected by bipolar illness.
The Family Center is a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses and volunteer
advocates for patient and caregiver needs. Both multi-cultural and multi-lingual, we tailor interventions
to the sociocultural values and needs of our patients.
Igor Galynker MD, PhD. Director
Dr. Galynker
is Associate Chairman of Psychiatry, Chief of the Division of Psychiatric Brain Imaging,
and Director of the Division of Biological Psychiatry at Beth Israel Medical Center.
He specializes in Affective Disorders, including Major Depressive Disorders, Bipolar Mood
Disorder, and Dysthymia.
Dr. Galynker was Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology, Psychiatry in 1993.
He attended Medical School at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx where he is now a
Professor of Clinical Psychiatry.
His residency training in psychiatry was at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City.

Dr. Daphne Simeon, Co-Director
Dr. Daphne Simeon is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Co-Director of
the Bipolar Family Treatment Center at Beth Israel Medical Center. After graduating from medical school and psychiatry
residency at Columbia University in New York City, she completed an NIMH-sponsored clinical research fellowship in Mood and
Anxiety Disorders at Columbia University / New York State Psychiatric Institute. She is also a graduate of the Columbia
Psychoanalytic Institute. From 1994 to 2008 she was on the Mount Sinai School of Medicine Psychiatry faculty, where she
was extensively involved in clinical research, clinical care supervision, teaching, and administration. She is a well-known
expert in the field of trauma-spectrum psychopathology, and internationally recognized as an expert in depersonalization
disorder. She has authored over 70 publications in peer-reviewed journals, numerous book chapters, and has edited books
on self-injurious behaviors, anxiety disorders, and depersonalization. She is an expert clinician, researcher and
teacher, and looks forward to applying her skills toward research and treatment at the Family Center for Bipolar Disorder.

Nancy Maruyama MD
Nancy C. Maruyama M.D
has worked with the Zirinsky Mood Disorders Center since its inception. She began conceiving of the
“patient” as the “patient and family” when she worked with Jimmie Holland, M.D. at
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Maruyama specializes in the care of patients (and families)
with co-morbid medical issues, Mood and Anxiety Disorders, and Hospice and Palliative Care. Specific
interests include health behaviors in cancer and bipolar patients, and family-centered treatments for
bipolar patients.
Dr. Maruyama is Board Certified in General Psychiatry with added qualifications in Geriatric Psychiatry
and in Psychosomatic Medicine. She graduated from Barnard College, Tulane University Medical School, did
her residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center, and Fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
She has been on the faculty of Brown University School of Medicine and currently is an Assistant Professor
at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Claire Bernard MSW, Family Therapist
Claire Bernard is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who works as a psychotherapist at the Beth Israel Medical
Center and in private practice. She holds a Masters Degree in Dance Therapy and Creativity Development from
Pratt Institute and a Masters in Social Work from Adelphi University. She has also trained at the Ackerman Institute
for Family Therapy.
She has 25 years experience working with various patients and their families, with emphasis on Mood Disorders,
Trauma, Crisis Intervention and Geropsychiatry.

Dimitry Aniskin
Dr Aniskin graduated with honors from Moscow Medical Academy in 1992, and worked extensively as an attending psychiatrist in
Moscow from 1994 until 2002. He did his residency training in Psychiatry at Beth Israel Medical Center - Albert Einstein College
of Medicine, in New York City from 2003-2007. In 2008 he has completed a Fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry also at the Beth
Israel Medical Center. Dr. Aniskin specializes in addiction psychiatry of Bipolar Mood Disorder and other mood disorders as well
as family issues related to substance abuse in families with Bipolar Illness.

Celena Dancourt MD
Dr. Dancourt is currently the Physician-in-Charge of the Evening Clinic – Outpatient Services for Adults.
She is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and completed a fellowship in Psychosomatic
Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. She did her residency in Psychiatry at Beth Israel Medical Center and
was Chief Resident during her fourth year.
Dr. Dancourt specializes in Affective Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Women’s mental health . Dr. Dancourt also works in integrating psychiatric issues with
co-morbid medical concerns in the outpatient setting. Her interests include cardiovascular risk factors and mental health
as well as health behaviors in mental illness. She includes psychotherapy/combined treatment in her practice and
emphasizes exploring family dynamics in Bipolar Illness.

Manuela Zisu MD, Child Psychiatrist
Dr. Zisu,
was certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in 1999.
She did her residency training in Psychiatry at Beth Israel Medical Center - Albert Einstein College of
Medicine, in New York City from 1994-1998.
She has a Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from Saint Vincent's Hospital.

Allison M. R. Lee MD
Allison M. R. Lee, M.D. is an Attending Psychiatrist at the Beth Israel Medical Center Evening Clinic and an ECRIP
Research Fellow at the Family Center for Bipolar Disorder. She completed her psychiatry residency at
Beth Israel Medical Center, and is currently a psychoanalytic candidate
at the William Alanson White Institute of Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis,
and Psychology. She studied Cognitive Science at Vassar College and
graduated with Distinction in Psychiatry Research from Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Psychiatry Residents
Beth Israel Medical Center psychiatry residents are supervised by the staff of The Family Center for Bipolar Disorder.
They provide both psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatment and support for patients with
bipolar illness and their families.
