CUBSS

Cannabis Use and Bipolar Spectrum Services (CUBSS)

The Family Center for Bipolar is accepting patients for a new and innovative service, the Cannabis Use and Bipolar Spectrum Services (CUBSS). CUBSS offers treatment and education to individuals with a bipolar spectrum disorder who also use marijuana. The primary goal of CUBSS is to help patients manage their bipolar disorder through tailored treatment, including education to better understand how their marijuana use affects their mental health and quality of life. Keeping in line with the credo of our center, CUBSS operates on a Family-Inclusive Treatment (FIT) model involving patient-selected caregivers (i.e., family member, close friend, or significant other).

The first initiative of its kind in the United States, CUBBS is geared directly toward the mental health community rather than a rehabilitation or drug treatment program. We accept individuals who feel that their manic or depressive episodes may be exacerbated or alleviated by their marijuana use. Patients must be willing to involve at least one family member or caregiver in their treatment, as a requirement of our FIT model. We do not accept individuals with alcohol dependence or whose primary problem is misuse of licit or illicit drugs.

CUBSS accepts private-payment, commercial insurance, and Medicare.
